East Wind Summer Update, 2016

September 2, 2016

East Wind spent a successful summer on the road in Lexington, Kentucky, and Traverse City, Michigan!

The summer started off with two weeks at the Country Heir Horse Shows in Lexington. Highlights include:

  • Hailey Berger and her own Shannondale Gino won two consecutive runnings of the $10,000 NAL Children’s Jumper Classic.

  • Maggie Gould and Taje Warrick’s Drommels were Champions of the 3’3” Performance Hunters during Week I.

  • Doris Neyra and her own Alibi VI took home the Championship in the Low Adult Jumpers during Week II.

  • Maggie Gould and Christy Powell’s Karoleena finished 11th in the very competitive $7,500 Joey Darby Memorial Pre Green Challenge.

  • Olivia Gruverman and Iron Street Equine Partner’s Rhetorical won the WCHR Children’s Hunter Under Saddle class.

  • Brooke Giacin and her own Shannaghmore were winners in the 12-14 Equitation.

From there, East Wind spent a month at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival in Traverse City, where the accolades really began to pile up. Five Great Lakes Equestrian Festival Circuit Championships were awarded to East Wind riders:

  • Catherine Wu and her own Ren Round Number were named Circuit Champion of the Adult Modified Jumper division.

  • Hailey Berger and Shannondale Gino were Circuit Champions of the Children’s Jumpers.

  • Doris Neyra and Alibi VI earned the Circuit Championship of the Low Adult Jumper division.

  • Grace Gruverman and Iron Street Equine Partners’ Everton took home Circuit Champion honors in the Low Children’s Hunters.

  • Claudia Millstone and East Wind Farms, LLC’s Chloe were Circuit Champions of the Low Adult Equitation.

More wins came in GLEF’s main hunter ring, as Maggie Gould and Drommels won three consecutive runnings of the USHJA National Hunter Derby.  The duo finished the circuit a perfect 3-for-3 in derby competition, consistently receiving scores well into the 90s. They could not be stopped!

There were highlights both in and out of the show ring, as East Wind took in the Traverse City sights, sounds and tastes. Fun was had by all at the National Cherry Festival, where East Wind watched a special performance by the Blue Angels; the Sleeping Bear Dunes, where East Wind went hiking, kayaking and sightseeing around Lake Michigan; on Torch Lake, where East Wind went boating; and more!

Other top finishes in Traverse City include:

  • Maggie Gould rode Joanna Grover Watson’s Rhapsody to Championship honors in the Baby Green Hunters during Weeks III and IV.

  • Maggie Gould and Karoleena were Champions of the Pre Green Hunter division during Week V.

  • Brooke Giacin and Shannaghmore won the T.H.I.S. National Children’s Medal during Week IV.

  • Doris Neyra and East Wind Farm’s Capital Gain were winners in the Low Adult Hunters.

  • Kate Eagleton was Reserve Champion of the Adult Equitation with her own Volan during Weeks II and III.

  • Emily Africk and her own Gringo won the Reserve Championship title in the Low Children’s Hunters at GLEF IV.

Then, it was back to Kentucky for the USHJA Pre Green Incentive Championship in Lexington. Maggie Gould and Karoleena turned in consistent performances in Rounds 1 & 2 to finish just outside the top 30 in the highly competitive championship.

East Wind has returned home to gear up for the fall indoor circuit, with planned stops at Capital Challenge, the Washington International Horse Show and the Pennsylvania National.

Congratulations to all East Wind riders on a fantastic summer circuit!
